On June 18, 2009, Zane Schmid passed away from SMA, a disease no child should ever be forced to endure. Over those five months of Zane's, Hillary and Keith's lives changed as well, and in ways I can't even imagine. Just two days after Zane's passing, I was chatting with some friends about Zane's illness. I had an idea for a book, and after some prodding, I finally spilled what it was. If the response that night was anything less than what it was, this probably never happens. But it was so well received, I started work on the manuscript immediately; the seeds of the story you read here came out of that first night. With my wife's blessing and encouragement, I began reaching out to these talented individuals to make this something special and give it a real chance to be read and enjoyed, and to help raise money to fight this tragic illness. They have all done so much and been so giving of their time, their energy, and their lives to help me see this through and make it what you're reading (or listening to) today. I am proud to say I didn't do this alone: I did it as part of a great team, and this book is as much theirs as it is mine. Please take some time to read about what makes these people so special, and I hope you enjoy this book as much as I've enjoyed doing it as part of this group.
